First edit attempt

Today is October 28th. We were supposed to edit today. Unfortunatly, the computers were not working so, we were unable to edit. Instead, we simply dumped the footage on to the computer and checked how the footage was. This took about 20 minutes to complete. When we were checking our shots we were happy with the shots we collected. They will be easy to edit when we begin editing. This would have been easier to edit if we recorded longer shots for editing. For the remainder of class we wrote our blog this was about 70 minutes.

We plan to do the editing next class. We will add tons of shadows to help fit the theme of intensity for the Gatorade. We will also have to edit in audio for heaving breathing and transitional music. In the end of the video we will edit in a Gatorade logo. This will clean up the video. To smoothen out the video, we will add transitions like fade black. For the most part our editing will be done.
It was very challenging to write this blog since we didn't have much to write about. Instead we either had to fabricate parts we wrote or overextend unnececary details.

Commercial production

Today is October 24th. We  began filming for our first project involving filming, our commercial. It was advertising Gatorade. First we went to our class to collect our equipment and the we signed it out. Shortly after the we went to our first filming location, the track. As we approached the track we noticed a few problems we would have to work around. First, physical education in session during our filming so, there were lots of people at the track. Second, the track seemed to be a popular place for filming. There we're lots of other a ice media students at the track, many of which were using areas we were trying to collect shots from.
These were just minor set backs though, we were able to find a quieter enough spot on the track to collect our shots from. We began by shooting our first shot. I was walking onto the track while other members of our group were "preparing for thr race" and were "stretching." We collected the same shot multiple times just in case we didn't like the way the first version looked. We also did alterations of different shots. For example, on the first shot when I was walking to the track, we got one low angle shot, a close up on my legs and a tracking shot which transitioned into a over the shoulder shot of everyone stretching.
Near the end of filming our camera ran out of battery. Fortunately, a group who was also on the track allowed us to barrow their battery for the rest of our filming. After this we went back to class to dump our footage onto our computer.

Storyboard planning

We started brainstorming our storyboard today in class. We have an idea of what we want to do for a Gatorade commercial including 3 racers and a coach. We might also incorporate some background fans cheering. We spent a while planning the idea and have created a good film plan. At the beginning we will have a shot behind our protagonist walking up to the starting blocks. We are thinking about having a voice over explain how he is washed up. The next thing we will do is tilt up to above his shoulder. This will show the other racers stretching. I think it well help show the importance of this race to the protagonist. The other racers will be wearing racing clothing so the audience can understand. The next scene will be a flash pan to the protagonist on the starting blocks in the foreground of the wide shot. We will have the other racers be unfocused in the shot to capture the protagonists emotion. We will have the race start and our protagonist lag behind. We will then have a close up of our protagonist sweating and looking serious. After that it zooms back out and he barely wins the race after pulling ahead. This will help the audience feel an emotion and be invested in the commercial. Next we will have a medium shot of the Protagonist given a medal and a Gatorade by his coach. There will be people cheering for him. The final shot will be the Protagonist slamming down the Gatorade after taking a drink and the camera closing up on the drink. In the background people will be cheering.

Editing Blog

Today is October 14th. In class today we learned basic class procedures along with editing tips and camera basics. We started off by discussing the class procedures. In order to use a camera you must fill out a rent form. The camera must be back the next day. For filming on campus, you must have your school I.D along with a film pass.
Next we learned how to operate the Cannon Vixia, the camera we will be using for all of our film related projects. Were taught how to turn the camera off, basic zooms and how to put in an SD card. Following that we were taught how to charge the camera. The charger needed to charge the camera is provided with the equipment we can rent. All we have to do to charge it is plug it in.

Another included piece of equipment we learned how to use is the tripod. To attach the tripod to the camera you must first remove the cap of the tripod. You can do this by using the spring loaded lever located of the side of the cap. After this, you must click the camera into position. To tighten you must screw the bottom. When the tripod is in place you will be able to take a handful of useful shots. The tripod will allow you to smoothly pan and tilt. It will also slow you to take Dutch shots. Along with being able to able steady the camera.

Later in the presentation, we learned how to edit on the computers provided. We must use an app pinnacle studios. To edit export film off the SD card. We must go into the DC IN folder and search for your footage. We must fully dump the footage onto our computer. To begin editing we must you must click import and click the plus sign. Then begin editing.

commercial Research

For our commercial's research we watched multiple commercials on Gatorade and other energy drink commercials. This allowed us to study the mis en scene, camera angles and shots that were used. Every commercial emphasizes a heavy use of lighting and shadows. Most Gatorade commercials end with an athlete placing a bottle of Gatorade somewhere that that athlete does something extraordinary to act like the Gatorade is giving them that power. Following that, most commercials  end with the Gatorade logo being showed and blured shots of a sports team or athlete winning something.

Introductory

I am Sean Meyler and I joined AICE media because of my love of film and television production. In middle school I took a television production class and ever sinse then I have had a passion for film. I also enjoy the editing process of videos. My favorite editing software is adobe Premire. Currently I am honing my adobe skills in Comm tech by practing on small video clips. For my first group project we made a Google slides presentation which discussed the different genres of film. We were assigned the genre of Drama. We discussed movies such as the Godfather. This project was a great warm up project introducing many of our group members to team working. The City Lights project was a very interesting project. It opened my eyes to a diferent intriguing way to coney emotions. I was fascinated by the ways they did this such as the use of the Kazoo.
