Title research: daredevil

Dare Devil (2003)
https://www.watchthetitles.com/
The number of titles in the opening sequence was 7. This was much less than the other openings I watched. These titles also came in a lot slower and were on the screen for much longer.
The prioritized image would be the braille and the darkened background. It stood out the most because it contrasted the background by being white.
These images can suggest that the main character is blind. Since, braille is used by blind people.
The genre is reinforced by the use of dark colors. It makes it seem like something bad is going to happen. You can infer it is crime. It does not look like the typical action film.
There are two main enigmas that  can be come about. First off the color of the whole opening sequence is darken with limited color. It made me feel a gloomy foreboding that something is wrong. The only true colors you see are red which can represent something meaningful to the main character. In this movie it happens to be the color of his super hero's suit.
Some strategies that ensure that the film appeals to the target audience is mainly the darkened colors and the feelings that come with. As I said previously it makes you feel like something is wrong. It encourages you to watch the rest of the movie to see what that is.
Technology made the opening scene so much better. the way the titles came in and out enhanced the clip. The titles took the squares from the windows of buildings and it formed words in braille. that braille then, dissolved into words. The clip also had slight movements that gave it motion. There were things such as pan and tilts.

Snatch

This opening scene has the most titles out of all of them I watched. It had 43 titles. This movie introduced who the actors where and who the characters were. This really added quiet a few titles.
This one was different from the other ones I watched because it immediately got into the plot. The set of images that were prioritized were when they were robbing a diamond place. They put this set in the middle and used the most angles for these clips.
The connotation for these images are simply that the main characters are robbers.
The main enigma is that the main characters are criminals. Unlike previous openings I looked at the enigma was very straight forward.
Some strategies that make sure the film appeals to the target audience is by immediately adding crime and action. One of the first scenes in the movie is a robbery. If you are looking for a crime movie this would hook you.
They used technology to change the lighting. This seems to be very common in the opening of crime movies. They also used different angles and moving. One thing I really liked was that they used security cameras to keep track of the characters. It was easy to see where they were going and how far they moved instead of just cutting from hallway to hallway.

The number of titles in the opening sequence is 30. The titles were very interesting to watch because they were put on creative places. For example on the side of a car or a gun
The prioritized images would be the last clip of the opening. it blends into the next scene very well. It starts of with a freeze framed, drawn, version of a clip and is moving really slowly. Then, color fills the screen and turns into a regular video where the speed of the clip quickly picks up. Some other prioritized images would be those featuring guns or cops.
The connotation of these images would be to show someone is in trouble by the police/ committed a crime. All of the images of the police and the guns are limited in color and then when a normal colored scene comes in the main character looks worried.
The genre is reinforced by the presence of police officer. The movement of the camera used makes it seem like we are in the middle of something. It consist of slow moving pans and tilts of people who look in a rush. This can be interpreted as the begging of action in the film.
An enigma that can be interpreted would be that some one is in trouble. The limiting of color gives an uneasy feeling, almost like something is wrong.
Some strategies that are used to ensure that the film appeals to the target is the movement of the camera and the clips of cops and guns. The cops and guns immediately allude to action and crime.
Technology was used very well. The majority of the opening scene looked like CGI or animation. The colorless hue of the image portrayed a different feeling than if it was shot on a camera.

The Dark Knight

The number of titles in the opening sequences is 22. Some examples of titles were the actors and producer names.
Some images that were prioritized were newspaper clippings and things that represent Batman such as his logo or something in the headings of the newspaper.
The connotation of the prioritized images is a very fast paced action movie. Most of the clips are not on the screen for more than a second. You can also predict there is a crime happening because of the writing of a newspaper. Something that can be predicted from this is some major crime is going to happen because crimes are covered in newspapers.
The genre is reinforced through the opening because you can tell its fast paced(technical)  and it alludes to there has been a crime committed(symbolic).
An enigma that could be assumed from the film is a crime having been committed. this prediction can be mad by the multiple clips of newspaper and the batman equipment.
Some strategies that are used to ensure film appeals to the target audience is the repeated use of quick moving shots and  shots of super hero equipment. These shots not only would interest an audience looking for a fast paced movie but, also a super hero movie.
Some effective use of technology include the us of different angles, movements, and shots. Throughout the clip you see angles such as, low, high, and eye level. They use different angles in the same item to give a jumpy effect.

Title Research: Watch the Title

The website above is called Watch the Title. It has the opening sequences to a bunch of films. The shortened films on the website allow me focus on only the opening sequences. I will only be focusing on the titles for these blogs. For example how the come in, how they leave, the font, and size. In future blogs I will be watching openings from this website and dissecting them. Some things I learned from this website are some things such as about how many titles should be displayed in a opening sequence and other good information. We have already decided our genre. So now we can focus on movies inside of our genre. As a reminder we chose the crime-action genre. This research will help us decide on certain things for our opening. Overall this website should help us for our final project.
