Music Video Production

Today we began producing our music video. First, we needed our props so, I went to the store to buy a water melon, a vase, a pack of red solo cups, and a pack of balloons. After relizing that our group member Lucas was not showing up for filming for whatever reason, we had to ask a friend to assist us with acting. Fortunatly, his weekend was free and he was able to help us. This proved be quite helpful for, there were many scenes where to people were required. To begin, we assembled our first scene. This didn't take much sinse it was in my bedroom. For the next scene we simply moved to the bathroom. For the following scene, we prepared a room we would use to simulate a party. These scenes took up about 15 seconds. Moving on, we went outside to film the scenes where we smashed random objects. To do this, we first set up a fire place then found tools we could use to destroy the melon. By this point we reached the end of filming and we concluded the first day. We needed to continue on Sunday.
On Sunday we filmed the scene where we are drinking water shots and a scene at the park. For the shot drinking scene, we simply used a table we found in the garage, some balloons, solo cups and shot drinking equipment. We then filmed some slow motions shots medium shots and an extreme close up. This took around 15 minutes.

Music Video Planning

For our music video commercial, we plan for it to take place at three place. The first is the house I will be preparing for the party at. The second will be the house party will be taking place at. And the third will be some sort of street of pavement ( probably a parking lot).
I do not think we have any health or safety concerns.
For our props, we plan to use balloons ( about 100-300), red solo cups, and a shot glass. We need these props for the party scene. We also will need some sort of items we will be able to destroy and easily dispose of. This is for the lot scene.
We are scheduling to film on Nevember 23rd-24th. This will be the most convenient because it will be over the weekend and will be the best time for everyone's schedule.

C. For our costumes, I do not think we will be doing anything too special. We are most likely going to wear clothes that range from casual to moderately dressy. Whatever we do wear must fit the theme of early 2000s party vibes.
L. For our final plan, we are deciding to use a dark room highlighted by strobe multicolor lights to act as our lighting for the actual party room. This fits the mood of many actual parties. For the scenes where I am waking up and preparing for the party, we will use filters to exaggerate the natural light coming in through the windows.
A. For actors we will use myself, group members and friends. We will most likely be able to get the majority of shots without more than two people. For the party scene however, we may need multiple actors to play background characters who play the role of adding the party theme.
M. We will not be doing anything with makeup for this film.
P. For our main props, we will be using red solo cups, balloons, a shot glass. We need these props to add to the party theme. For secondary props, we will maybe use a vase, a couch and a paint can. We will use these for a scene where everything more or less goes "crazy."
S. The setting for our music video will take place in three places. The first place will be a house where I am preparing for the party. The second location will be a house where the party takes place, this will most likely be the same house as the one I used to prepare for the party. The third main setting will be in an open lot.
C.
A. For camera angles, we will be using many standard angles low, high, medium, close up, Ect. However, we wanted to use a Dutch tilt to represent a sense of disorientation at the party.
M. For movements, we will most likely use many track shots, pans, and tilts.

Intro to music video

Song:
Today in class we began planning for our second filming project, our music video. We chose the song "I gotta feeling." We choose this song because of it's upbeat vibes and how energetic the lyrics are. This will make choreographing the music video exponentially easier.
To begin our planning, we first analysed the lyrics of the song then associated a shot we had in mind with that given verse from the song. For example, we are going to zoom in on a paper calendar and have "Party" written on everyday of the calendar and synchronize that with the verse that says "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Friday Saturday, etc."
Conventions:
Our genre is pop. Conventions associated with pop music include bright lights, some shadows, and flashy colors. Many times, there is links between lyrics and scenes. So, that is why we brainstormed and linked the lyrics with our shots we are going to do.
1. In the pop genre, the costumes usually stick out. They, for the most part, keep in theme with the flashy colors and energetic vibes most pop music video themes maintain.
2. For the lighting of pop, there are either bright colors or dimmed rooms with heavy shadows. We will attempt to follow this pattern in our music video.
3. For a pop music video's camera angles, they can range from essentially any shot
4. For pop music video makeup, they usually use heavy intense colors to help stick out even more but, I don't think we will be using any makeup for our music video.
5. Props for pop music videos usually as the name will imply help the video pop out. We will be using multi- colored  balloons, bright colored paints and bright calendars.
6. The setting of a pop music video will usually take place where a party is happening. So, our music video will be taking place in a "Club" and at a person's house.
Editing: For our editing, we will probably speed up the videos shots, alter the length of the audio and make simple cuts to our shots.

Editing Process

Today in class we were finally able to begin editing. Prior to this Pinacle studios was not functioning for whatever reason. To begin our editing, we opened up a new project and imported the dumped footage from the day we filmed our commercial. We then went through everything making sure nothing was corrupt or missing. After that we assembled the footage in the order of our story board. Following this, we discussed what we wanted to do and how we wanted to edit it. We decided we wanted to put specific filters over specific scenes to truly set the mood we are trying to achieve. On scenes where I am walking to the track we used a cold filter to simulate me focussing and blocking everything else out. To add to this effect we slowed down the speed by 25 to 50 percent. To transition between scenes we used a simple fade effect to represent switching between different members of possibly an audience. This also fit in with the overall theme of the commercial. We intended on editing to the beat of a selected song but, our editor thought this would be unnecessary.
A problem we encountered midway through the editing process was that our overall commercial time surpassed thirty seconds, the time limit. So, we had to make some cuts to our commercial to decrease it's time. This was done using the razor tool. We found doing this challenging sinse everything ran very smoothly without the cuts. Nonetheless, we were able to successfully decrease the comercial's time to twenty nine seconds. This left one second remaining for a logo at the end.
In the end, were able to finish most of the editing, but we certainly could have done more. In its current state, the shots do not flow as smoothly as I would like them to, and the stock music audio feels out of place. I am still happy with how this turned out though after all, it is only our first filming project.
