Editing Process

Today in class we were finally able to begin editing. Prior to this Pinacle studios was not functioning for whatever reason. To begin our editing, we opened up a new project and imported the dumped footage from the day we filmed our commercial. We then went through everything making sure nothing was corrupt or missing. After that we assembled the footage in the order of our story board. Following this, we discussed what we wanted to do and how we wanted to edit it. We decided we wanted to put specific filters over specific scenes to truly set the mood we are trying to achieve. On scenes where I am walking to the track we used a cold filter to simulate me focussing and blocking everything else out. To add to this effect we slowed down the speed by 25 to 50 percent. To transition between scenes we used a simple fade effect to represent switching between different members of possibly an audience. This also fit in with the overall theme of the commercial. We intended on editing to the beat of a selected song but, our editor thought this would be unnecessary.
A problem we encountered midway through the editing process was that our overall commercial time surpassed thirty seconds, the time limit. So, we had to make some cuts to our commercial to decrease it's time. This was done using the razor tool. We found doing this challenging sinse everything ran very smoothly without the cuts. Nonetheless, we were able to successfully decrease the comercial's time to twenty nine seconds. This left one second remaining for a logo at the end.
In the end, were able to finish most of the editing, but we certainly could have done more. In its current state, the shots do not flow as smoothly as I would like them to, and the stock music audio feels out of place. I am still happy with how this turned out though after all, it is only our first filming project.
